Flying with Delta Airlines? Kid-Friendly Meals and Dessert Cart are Back!
If you're planning a trip with your little ones, eating a more plantbased diet, and/or looking to become a member with an American airline for luxury trips, Delta has some exciting news for you! From April 1st 2023, Delta's youngest customers will be able to enjoy meals specifically prepared for them during their flights. If you want to take advantage of these special meals, you can select them on flights via special meals starting March 23, 2023 for flights flown after April 1, 2023.
Keep in mind that special meals must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance and are offered on long-haul international flights, flights from certain domestic cities, and on most other domestic routes for customers traveling in First Class. Parents, be sure to read to the end for additional point-earning perks with Delta Airlines!
The New Kids Menu
The meals are well-balanced and include a variety of fruits, vegetables, colors, and textures. Delta's team of chefs have studied restaurant menus and traditional kids' meals to develop menu items that will please children and parents alike.
For breakfast, your little ones can enjoy French toast with syrup, scrambled eggs, an assortment of fruit, and a small blueberry muffin.
For lunch and dinner, they can dig into cheese tortellini with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese, carrots and broccoli with ranch dressing, an assortment of fruit, and graham cookies.
New Menu Updates
The return of kids' meals is just one of the updates to Delta's refreshed onboard food and beverage menu. On January 19th, Delta announced the return of its signature Delta One dessert cart, which includes plated desserts, fruit and cheese plates, and a build-your-own ice cream sundae. Customers can indulge in items like opera cake with chocolate ganache, Cowgirl Creamery wagon wheel, Midnight Moon gouda, and grapes. Delta One dessert cart is available on international flights; options vary depending on the city of departure.
Delta's Senior Vice President of In-Flight Service, Kristen Manion Taylor, believes that "Your onboard meal and beverage should be no different than your go-to restaurant at home, and that's why we're constantly reinventing our onboard service at Delta. We always want to surprise and delight our customers with seasonal, fresh and fun menu options."
In addition to kids' meals and the return of Delta's dessert cart, the latest menu refresh brings regional touches like traditional afternoon tea and tapas to pre-arrival menu selections. Seasonal additions feature comforting meals from favorite restaurants like Little Italia's Gio's Chicken Amalfitano in Atlanta.
Delta's extensive food and beverage program includes vegetarian menu options in partnership with Impossible Foods, partnerships with three James Beard Award-winning chefs, elevated onboard wine offerings with Imagery Estate Winery, led by award-winning female winemaker Jamie Benziger, and Du Nord Social Spirits.

This decision comes as part of the company’s mission to promote wellness on its travels. Kristen Manion Taylor, Senior Vice-President of Delta’s In-Flight Service said: “Not only are plant-based meats like Impossible™ Burger delicious to eat, but they’re also often better for the environment, using far less land and water to produce.”
The New Plant-Based Menu
The alliance with the plant-based food companies will allow the company to offer new exotic meals, like plant-based lamb meatballs or impossible burgers, along with the reintroduction of their regular hot meals.
The airline clarified that this option will be available only for selected flights of 900 miles or greater, and for Delta One and First Class customers.
The majority of their international routes should now include a plant-based menu alternative, and within the United States long-distance destinations between Atlanta or New York and cities like Los Angeles, Denver, or Seattle, will also start offering a plant-based menu.

Delta did not publish a list of flights that will offer the new plant-based menu but did provide a list of dishes and the availability on certain locations. These are the new meals that Delta One and First Class travelers will get to taste:
Impossible Burger: The green chili-spiced burger with caramelized onions, manchego cheese, and brioche bread will be available in 900 miles or greater selected flights.
Black Sheep Foods Lamb Meatballs: These plant-based meatballs will be served with spinach rice and feta on selected flights departing from San Francisco.
Impossible Meatballs: The recipe created by Impossible Food will be served with tomato sauce, risotto, pesto, spinach, and roasted tomatoes on selected flights departing from New York (from John F. Kennedy and La Guardia airports).
Cauliflower Cakes: Made with riced cauliflower, rapini, and parmesan, served with pesto orzo, roasted tomatoes, and hazelnuts. This option will be available on certain flights departing from Seattle.
Warm Seasonal Vegetable Plate: featuring fresh broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, red onions, and cherry tomatoes, served with couscous in 900 miles or greater selected flights.
So if you're considering joining a membership with an American airline, Delta is definitely worth considering, especially if you're traveling with young ones who appreciate a well-balanced, kid-friendly meal during their flights!
