This year, my family suffered a terrible and devastating loss, and because of it, we had a different kind of Christmas.
While it was still merry and bright, no amount of joy could alter the fact that we were (and always will be) missing my beautiful cousin, Spechelle Pope, who was taken too soon, well before her time, leaving 4 young children behind.
My cousin, Spechelle, and her Lyft driver, Lester de Leon Chacon, were both murdered by a street racer on June 9, 2021 — May they both rest in peace.
“Racing on a public roadway is illegal under California law. Particularly during the pandemic, Southern California saw a spike in street racing and illicit events such as “sideshows,” which have resulted in major injuries and fatalities. Despite crackdowns by police officials in the Greater Los Angeles area, this is a problem that has persisted costing lives and tragedies such as this one.”
On December 20, 2021, my family was honored to be paid such a heartwarming visit by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Sheriff Department. We give them many thanks for their time, well wishes, and for the Christmas presents they gifted to my little cousins.
I know their mother, Spechelle would be delighted to know that her children were all well taken care of for Christmas this year by LA County.

I love you, Moody!!! You were always a role model to me — you inspired me to learn/speak Spanish! I love all your kids soo much and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each one of them better in these months since you’ve passed on. They are already growing up so fast! Harmony is walking and talking now lookin like a Pope baby should. It’s crazy ‘cuz I remember visiting you when she was just a tiny newborn :) seems like not-so-long ago... They really are such sweet kids and it breaks my heart that they no longer have you at home.
Rest in peace, Moody! Un gusto conocerte y sentir tu amor en esta vida. <3 Hasta que nos vemos de nuevo.
