The Key to Unlocking Your ‘Writer Voice’
Over the years, I’ve taken great pride and pleasure in both academic and leisure writing. As my writing talents have grown, I’ve learned that establishing voice requires a strong, unique sense of self.
Growing up, I was always taught that in order for your writing to be “good” or to stand out among other’s, it has to be unique. Meaning that what you say is just as important as how you say it.
Ultimately, your voice has to encapsulate and be YOU. It has to be natural and it has to flow, which can only happen if the feeling and words are genuine.
Your voice comes from a raw, uncut, unfiltered version of yourself that isn’t thinking about what other people want to hear or how they would rather say it. Your voice is your own soul and mind working together, speaking to be heard and to be understood.
The thing is, to be understood, you must first understand yourself. The key to unlocking and then establishing your ‘writer voice’ is to take a journey of self discovery, remember your words are your own and no one else’s, and from there, just write without fear — you can always go back and edit!
